Our drive and dive challenge consists of eight locations that have been selected for their variety as well overall quality of diving. All eight dive locations are a short drive away from Wilmington and have unique features that make for an awesome day or weekend. From Scuba parks to offshore wrecks these drive and dives offer something for every diver.
The rules of the challenge are easy.
Fantasy Lake Scuba Park
In the midst of a 100 acre fenced-in park is located a 50-acre lake dedicated solely to scuba diving. Fantasy Lake offers average depths of 32 to 36 feet, as well as areas with depths of 80ft. Open Daily from 7 AM until Sunset and Night Diving from Sunset to 10PM. Open 365 Days per year.
Waiver is availbe on-site at check-in.
Formerly the Rockton Quarry of the Wake Stone Company, the site was an active granite quarry operation from the turn of the century until the early 1950's.The lake contains bass, bluegill, mosquito fish, turtles, catfish, carp, freshwater eel, koi, and paddlefish. Impressive underwater cliffs and overhangs await exploration by divers. Since being open for diving in July 2017, Mystery Lake remains a largely unexplored natural wonder, perfect for the adventure diver who wants to be the first to discover its secrets.
Located 6 miles off Interstate 85 in Thomasville, North Carolina, Blue Stone is a Scuba Park with a full service Dive Center. This rock quarry serves as an unexpected yet perfect setting for all types of scuba divers. Divers come from surrounding states to see sunken boats, cars, and even a 50 foot Navy Ship! Come out and enjoy the many amenities Blue Stone has to offer!
Lake Phoenix is a fantastic place for dive training and practice. The lake itself is full of unique underwater features like boats, a plane, a bus, and even a Blackhawk helicopter. There’s plenty of camping space available, cabins, bathhouses with coin-operated showers, and tons of parking. Non-diving swimmers are welcome throughout the week or after noon on Sundays. Olympus Dive Center is a family owned and operated facility in the heart of the Crystal Coast. Scuba Express, a division of Express Watersports, offers scuba diving charters which visit World War II wrecks, Civil War wrecks, as well as some more modern wrecks.
